As your host here's a little about my beginnings.

Once upon a time, I was simply a collector of American glass cup plates. As I scoured antique shops around New England -- where I spent many of my formative adult years -- I began picking up a lot of pressed glass toys of the same period (c.1825-1860). I recognized that these toys and miniatures displayed well with cup plates; more importantly, they were enticements for my wife (who found them "cute") to accompany me into dusty antique shops in search of the more serious collectable stuff that held my interest. Thus, miniatures became a logical addition to my collection.

Next, my wife and I began attending estate auctions where our interests seemed to clash; she was captivated by cute, polished, and/or sparkly things, while items that drew my attention (other than the cup plates) were often covered with rust. Regardless of which of us ended up drawn to this treasure or that, the estate auctions always added another fascinating item or two to my quickly expanding inventory.

Finally, in order to achieve credibility amoung collecting circles, and to further augment my "eclectic assortment," I began to purchase collections -- often box lots -- via private and on-line auctions such as Skinners, Freemans, and Green Valley Auctions, so ended up with a lot of duplicates. At that point, I began offering spares to collectors on ebay (where I've built a decent reputation as Wilster89, if you care to check out my track record).

Today, after a brief span of six weeks, my multi-talented wife has generously designed and built this website for me to display and to offer for sale cup plates and other antiques I've gathered in an attempt to fill our house with more STUFF. She does this out of pure selflessness with no thought of ridding our home of the hundreds of items that threaten to take over what precious little living space remains.

Please take a look around and if you see something you like -- get in touch. I hope you enjoy visiting Historic Views.
